I couldn't help but think of you when I spotted this rose, as if you where there in spirit. :-)
Must be a very hardy rosebush, to survive between the sand and the salt ponds.

There were mountains of harvested salt, but I rather chased the birds in the salt pond wetland sanctuary than spending time in stores.

So, no salt in my bags, only sand in my shoes and great memories of beautiful white and pink flamingos.

I do cook with coarse Italian sea salt, but I get it at 89 cents for 2.1 pounds at my grocer's.

Yes, we went from the Austrian border along the Adriatic Sea, all the way to Trani, which is near Bari.
As for the color of the flamingos, their body was a very light pink, with their necks a darker shade, and the feathers towards the end of the wings and the legs a very bright pink. The white ones must have been younger ones. From what I have learned, the scientific name of the European flamingo is "Phoenicopterus ruber roseus".
My zoom was not strong enough to get close-ups, and when I was close enough, the whole flock took to the air the moment I lifted my camera. I did not want to scare away any more so I desisted. They were a sight to behold and remember, and there were many more birds. One of the highlights of the trip.
